2023-2024 Diocese of Central PA Youth Advisory Team Application (Youth)

Position Description

The Diocese of Central Pennsylvania Youth Advisory Team (CPYAT) is a team of youth and adults, one youth (9th-12th grade) and one adult from each convocation, who will serve to form a vision and mission for children, youth, and families in Central PA. This will be a one-year term.

The Youth Advisory Board will also:

  • Examine the Youth Vision Task Force Report and recommendations, and determine how to implement
  • Assist in planning, implementing, and evaluating Diocesan and/or Convocation events, trainings, and community-building times with and for youth


Position Expectations

  • Attend monthly meetings (on Zoom)
  • Attend 1-2 in-person retreats annually
  • Serve on one or more committees within the group
  • Attend youth events
  • Engage in leadership and formation
  • Share information with local parish, convocation, and community
  • Attend Diocesan Convention

Who can serve?

  • Someone who is an active member of their home parish (examples regularly include: 1- attending worship; 2-serving as an acolyte, lay reader, chalice bearer, music team/choir member, younger grade Sunday School teacher, nursery worker or VBS volunteer; 3- participating in Christian Formation - Sunday School, Youth Group, Bible Study; 4-volunteering through a parish-based outreach mission or ministry.)
  • Someone who is able to attend CPYAT meetings, the overnight planning meeting, zoom check-ins, and Diocesan Convention*
  • Someone who can occasionally miss school for leadership opportunities and offerings (documentation is provided for school)
  • Must want to work in collaboration with other young people and adults from across the Diocese to improve, grow and sustain ministry with and for young people
  • Must have access to reliable internet and computer/device with a functioning camera*

1. As a general rule of thumb, members should not plan to miss a meeting. One can never know when a true emergency might pop up. In addition, when a member isn't there they are missed. Missing members opinions, ideas, and insights are not heard. Please note that arriving late or leaving early is challenging to the community during a meeting (in person or online), therefore it should be avoided. Committing to strong leadership is not a small undertaking, and it is part of an CPYAT member’s commitment to supporting Youth Ministry in Central Pennsylvania.

Recommendations

Applicants will need a recommendation from two adults who are NOT RELATED to them. At least ONE of the recommendations must come from someone who knows the Applicant from their home parish. The second recommendation may also come from the home parish, but someone who knows the applicant OUTSIDE OF PARISH LIFE is strongly encouraged.
